sizzling temperatures

we're supposed to have triple digits temps for the next few days but look at bailey just a couple of days ago. she had to wear her fleece lined harness on our walk because it was so chilly.

ok, bailey says it's time to go but before we do, i would be remiss if i didn't speak a bit more on the sizzling temperatures.
-if you are in heatwave, as we are here in so cal, please make sure your dog always has plenty of fresh drinking water.
-pay attention to the time of day you go on your walk. don't forget the asphalt gets really hot for your barefoot dog.
-and of course, NEVER leave your dog in a parked car.

visiting the home improvement centers is always fun ... and a bit dangerous because we are avid DIYers ... plus it's one of the few places that is dog friendly.

bailey is helping me decide on a paint color for an accent wall in my kitchen. (btw, i went with behr's carrot stick, BAM)

thanks so much to lynne over at dip-dip and the bridge for creating such an adorable mini bailey. she customized her for us by adding the white around her snout and eyes and even gave her a pink bandana because my little bailey is (as lynne put it) "such a cute girly-girl."

our trip up to the monterey peninsula has come to an end. gotta get back to the real world now. we had a blast and look forward to our next visit, more coffee shops, and more fun!

i'm a city girl so when i saw this sign, i had to snap a picture. really? bears could cross the highway? wow!

little bailey is such a good traveler. she just finds a comfy spot and stays there till the car stops. thank goodness she doesn't get car sick!

yep, looks like los angeles to me! wish we could just teleport right through this la traffic. ya, we were stuck in this forever.

coffee w/ bailey (& aoife): parker-lusseau

i know this is supposed to be wordless wednesday, but i still have a few more things to say about our trip.

ok, one more coffee shop before we leave the peninsula. daughter #1 recommended we go with parker-lusseau pastries and cafe because they had lots of outdoor seating for the doggies. it was a cold morning, so the doggies had to be wrapped in their blankies. (a good doggie mommy is always prepared.) we got lots of comments on how cute they looked.

aoife's a big girl, so she gets her own chair.

they had quite the pastry selection but i just went with the peach danish.

bailey in monterey

the delicate floor bailey is standing on is made entirely of whale vertebrae. the bone was cut into diamond patterns which give the sidewalk an irreplaceable and unique look.

it is now illegal to kill whales in the united states but in the mid 1800's, monterey had a busy whaling industry.

bailey: "oh, i like it here much better. look at me. i am queen of the flower mountain!"

historic old monterey sign under a camino real bell. el camino real is the "road that linked the missions, pueblos, and presidios in early california". there are hundreds of bells up and down highway 101, which "follows the general route of the original trail."

coffee w/ bailey: crema

another quaint little coffee shop daughter #1 took us to, while in the peninsula, was crema espresso and wine bar. yep, you read that right; a coffee and wine bar. the building is an old multi-level victorian with tons of charm. there are three indoor rooms plus a small outdoor patio for your seating pleasure. they handcraft each drink and they offer free wi-fi.

as you can see, it was a bright and sunny morning.

sorry, my daughters grew up in the 80's and this song just popped in my head. anyone recognize it?

the mischief happened because aoife had claimed this area as her own. so when guests would exit through the patio area, aoife would express her displeasure at the trespassers by barking at them. how dare strangers invade her personal space!

the day has barely begun and bailey is already pooped. she's been such a trooper on this trip. we've really put her (& aoife) through their paces and they just chug right along side of us. rest up sweetie, we've got another full day ahead of us.
