even though i put bailey's bed in the shade, she is still feeling the soothing effects of the sun and is just about ready to curl up for an afternoon nap on our back patio.

this picture was taken in december of 2010, just 12 days after we rescued little bailey. at this point, she didn't even have a name yet. i was just calling her "doggie." 9 1/2 years later, i still call her doggie. BOL

spoon fed

bailey refused to eat yesterday but with daddy's help, she's at least getting some white rice down. i made it with homemade chicken broth but she didn't want it. i had some ground beef in the fridge so i cooked it up, drained the fat off and used that to make another batch of white rice. as you can see, that did the trick. plus it doesn't hurt that she's being spoon fed by daddy.

one day at a time

bailey's been having some good days and some not-so good days. obviously, this picture was taken on a good day. some days she eats well and others she barely eats anything at all. sometimes her balance is a bit off, so her walk is more of a stagger. i don't know what else might be going on with her but something is off. did she battle pancreatitis just to be faced with something worse? we do know she has that mystery mass in her but is she strong enough to endure a surgery? we don't think so. right now, all we can do is take it one day at a time. and pray.
please keep little bailey in your prayers.

bouncing back

bailey is bouncing back quite nicely after her bout with pancreatitis. it took 3 weeks of daily vet visits to bring her back from death's door, but doc was able to get a handle on it. yes, you read that right, death's door. friday doc told me "she was dying" when he first started treating her. wait, what? dying? he hadn't put it that bluntly before. i had no idea her condition was so grave. but that was 3 weeks ago. look at her now!
i will call him today to let him know how she was over the weekend and to get the results from the blood he took friday.

another long visit at the vet makes for a very tired doggie. she's feeling better and, even though you cannot tell by this photo, she is acting a lot more like the little bailey that we all know and love. we thought yesterday would have been her last treatment but doc feels she still needs at least one more and also wants to keep up with her subcutaneous fluids a bit longer.

bailey's appetite has been coming back but she's being very picky. if she loves what i offer, then she's starving. if she doesn't like it, then all of a sudden she's not hungry but she stays lurking in the kitchen. what's up with that? if you're hungry, then you're hungry, no?

bailey's lost a pound in the past week, so we are trying to get her to eat anything to get her weight back up. yesterday we offered her a tortilla. after all, she is a chihuahua, right? BOL

under the weather, part 7

bailey is looking a lot better. her pancreatitis numbers have dropped from 1600 to 350! i think our goal number is 200 (we're so close!) but when she reaches the goal, that's only half the battle. we still have to deal with the mass that's growing in her. if we only knew what it was. an x-ray can only show so much. doc still wants to open her up to see what we're dealing with. it's either gonna be not too bad or really bad. i'm not ready for it to be really bad and i'm scared. of course i don't want her to be suffering and i would never let it get to that stage. she's been going for fluids and treatments everyday and seems to be doing so much better now that we are getting a handle on her pancreatitis. but that mass is still looming over us; is it just a benign tumor or the big "C"?
