time flys

is half the year gone already? why does time have to go so fast! little bailey doesn’t seem to mind the passing of time. all she cares about is how much longer she has to wait before i give her the yummy treat i’m holding in my hand. BOL

on the patio

bailey doesn’t really care to be out in the yard. she knows the yard is her bathroom and not a place to spend more time than is absolutely necessary. but the patio is another story. it’s her favorite place.

a bailey kind of day

we hit an antique mall yesterday (my favorite pastime) and the mall was so big, they had to name each of their rows so people don’t get lost. when we looked up we found we were on bailey street!

bailey enjoys finding goodies too.

B is for Bailey!

then on the way home, we passed this place!
it was definitely a bailey kind of day.

never again

bailey sleeps on my side of the bed, so i’ve always had a guard rail to keep her from falling off. earlier this month, when she fell off the bed, she had crossed over me to be between me and hubby. when he got up to go to work, that left her on the unprotected side of the bed and she fell off. (hubby doesn’t have a guard rail.) to prevent this from ever happening again, bailey gets harnessed, and leashed, every night. then we tether her leash to the shelving next to our bed. she can still move around, she just can’t reach the edge of the bed. it’s better to be safe than sorry.

imho

we think the best way to shoot an animal is with a camera and the best place for an animal’s head is on it’s body.

bailey is feeling very sad for this poor guy that someone has mounted on a piece of wood as some sort of pseudo trophy.

yarn barricade

poor little bailey. she is so helpless. here is her dilemma: i have a crochet project sitting on the table and my ball of yarn is on the floor in the orange tub. see that single strand of yarn going from the ball to my project? it might as well be a 10’ tall brick wall.

she looks at the yarn blocking her path from getting to me.

then she looks at me for help. this is typical bailey. she is afraid to go under it, she can't jump over it and there’s no way she would just push through, so she just stands there, helpless.

“HELP!”

bright eyed and bushy tailed

the sparkle is returning to bailey’s eyes.

and speaking of bushy tails, this little guy came for a visit yesterday. i leave walnuts on the wall for him to find...

so i can get a picture like this one!

dream on

do your fur babies sleep with their eyes open? and do they snore? sometimes bailey does, other times she doesn’t. yesterday she did both.

you’re gonna have to put your sound up for this one :)

chumbawamba

we had a very good vet visit on friday. doc was impressed on how bailey looked compared to how she looked one week ago. she’s still a little wobbly but her spine has straightened so her walk isn’t as crooked as it was. yay, bailey!

in the late 90’s, chumbawamba released a song called tubthumping. the main verse is: i get knocked down, but i get up again, you're never gonna keep me down. bailey has taken that song on as her personal anthem.

day 4 of recovery

today is our recheck appointment and i have so many good things to tell the doc but i also have to bring up her balance. even though this picture looks like she is just enjoying the outdoors, she is lying on the lawn because she lost her balance and it was just easier to stay put rather than to try and get up. her back leg is the culprit and the reason for her crooked walk as well.

on a happier note, she wasn’t as lethargic as she had been. she had much more awake time and a healthy appetite to boot. at dinnertime she ate all her chicken and veggies!

yesterday was definitely more good than bad. she even did a little sprint across the long runner we have in our dining room, after coming in from outside. (because we have wooden floors, we’ve put runners and throw rugs everywhere to make it easier for her to walk.) oh, and in this picture, she really is enjoying the outdoors.

day 3 of recovery

bailey is doing well. she is still sleeping a lot but when she’s awake, she’s alert. look at how focused she is on her cosequin chew. she loves them and thinks they are the best thing since ground beef! BOL

take a gander at what she did at dinnertime. she ate from her bowl! of course she only picked out the ground beef, but the point is she ate on her own.

she looks so peaceful when she sleeps. sweet dreams baby girl.

her balance still has a way to go but she never did fully regain her balance from the first fall. also her walk is still a little crooked but maybe she just needs more practice. maybe if she’d stay awake a little more, she could walk a little more. just a thought :)

praying for more improvement tomorrow.

day 2 of recovery

first off i would like to thank y’all for the outpouring of love. it really means so much to me. i don’t know what i would without you. i love y’all.

we had a pretty good day yesterday. in the morning, i carried her outside and had her harness at the ready but she was able to walk on her own! it’s a little crooked and wobbly and she stumbles a little but she's able to get from point a to point b unassisted. all things considered, i decided to postpone her vet appointment until friday.

even with all the sleep bailey got monday, she still managed to sleep all of yesterday. if i didn’t wake her to eat or to go out to do business, i really wonder when she would have woken up. mealtime was a bit of a challenge. she didn’t really want to eat so i had to convince her that she was hungry. and the only way she would eat was out of my hand. as long as the food got into her tummy, i guess it didn’t matter how it got there.

this look on her face was because she was hearing sounds outside the front door. it took a moment to click, but when she realized it was mail being delivered, she went into a tizzy; barking and huffing and puffing at the door. after our mailman left, i had to open the door to show her the coast was clear and that she had scared away the “monster" outside the door. good job bailey. thank you for protecting me.

praying for more good news tomorrow.

déjà vu, potp needed

y'all aren’t gonna believe this but once again i find myself with an emergency visit to the vet because bailey fell. this time she fell off the bed. after her fall she went into a seizure, rendering her paralyzed and unresponsive.

she also lost control of her bowel & bladder and soiled herself, the pajama she was wearing and the bed she was laying on. when she was coming out of her seizure, she kept trying to lift her head and tried to stand but her back legs didn’t want to cooperate. by the time i made it to the doctor, she was responsive and making eye contact but still not walking. she even snapped at the doc during her exam. we both were happy ‘bout that because that showed that she was aware of what was going on. he checked her pupils and said they were a little off but her heart sounded good and she was able to follow his hand with her eyes. he gave her an anti-inflammatory injection and sent me home with anti-inflammatory pills.

on our way home from the vet i stopped at in-n-out for a meat patty. i figured if i had to give her a pill, i’d have to put it into something she couldn’t resist. (it did work, but just barely.)

as of this writing (monday 8pm) she is still having trouble walking. she's been asleep since we returned from the vet but we woke her to eat the in-n-out patty that she didn’t want earlier and now she gobbled it up. we also gave her some water. doc called to check on her and he was very happy to hear that she ate. we again, have to help her walk because her back legs seem to have a mind of their own. doc said to keep an eye on her eyes. if one gets bulgy, that’s a concern. also if she starts dragging her legs, i should bring her right back in. we still have to be mindful of her brain swell. i have an appointment for the morning but if she is doing fairly well, then i can cancel it and reschedule for thursday or friday.
so once again i’m asking for POTP for my little girl. she is a fighter but she could still use all the prayers she can get. thank you so much.

it’s getting hot in here

we had a pretty hot weekend. yesterday hit 90°!

"you do realize i’m naked, don’t you?"

so bailey had to go au naturale.

"i’m so embarrassed"

shunning the puparazzi

bailey is totally ignoring the fact that i’m trying to get a picture for today’s blog post. well, she did just notice hubby pulling in the drive, so i guess that is more important than posing for a pic.
