psa: dog days of summer

with the dog days of summer upon us, i would be remiss if i didn’t remind y’all about the danger of leaving your pet, or any living being, in a parked car. even if the temperature outside seems ok to you, the inside of a car is not ok for your pet. and leaving the windows cracked open, does not make it any better.

check the chart below to see how fast the temperature in your car rises. these temps can lead to brain damage, heatstroke and/or death.

when walking your dog, please keep in mind that when the air temperature is 87°, the asphalt can reach a blistering 140° and that's hot enough to cause burns, permanent damage and scarring after just one minute of contact! if it’s too hot for you to walk barefoot, then it’s too hot for your pooch. walk them early morning or later in the evening.

afghan weather?

it may be 105° outside, but inside with the air conditioner on, bailey’s cold. so yes, it’s afghan weather, in the middle of summer. BOL

i was picking up oranges that had fallen off my tree the other day and i found this gem. it looks like a normal orange, right?

that is, until you turn it around, and see what is lurking on the inside. AGH!!!

just like buster poindexter’s song says, it’s gonna be "hot hot hot" this week. we won’t hit 116° like we did earlier this month, (that was beyond crazy!) but triple digits are in the forecast for the week. bailey heard the weather report so she decided to go au naturel today.

bailey isn’t really a playful doggie, so i was totally surprised when i rolled this little yarn ball to her and she actually started playing with it!

a few days ago i found this beautiful little house finch in my backyard, sitting just as you see her here. she didn’t fly away when i approached her and when i took a closer look at her, she didn’t look well to me.

i offered my hand and i had a snow white moment when she jumped up on me.

i could tell by her demeanor that she wouldn’t be with us much longer and my heart broke for her. an hour later i found her laying on her side laboring to breathe and the next time i checked on her, she was gone.

she had really tugged at my heartstrings so i wasn’t about to just throw her in the garbage bin like trash. i wrapped her in a hankie and we laid her to rest under our rose tree.

rest in peace little one.

planning ahead

we took bailey out for a long walk last night to tire her out so she would hopefully sleep through any fireworks the neighborhood knuckleheads may light.

we stayed out for about 90 minutes but in chihuahua time, that was like three hours!

ok, she looks tired. let’s go home.

she worked up quite an appetite too, so when we got home, she was able to eat her full dinner. i put her thundershirt on her and blasted the tv, and she fell right asleep. she woke up with a couple of super loud explosions and started shaking but i think she was too exhausted and she fell back asleep. success!

3rd of july

every year i dread any holiday that includes fireworks and here we are at the biggest one of them all. ugh. we’ve already heard a couple of explosions that scared the bejesus out of bailey (and me)! why do people do that? we are keeping our fingers crossed that bailey has a peaceful night and doesn’t end up with a panic attack.
