napping with a monkey

bailey always needs a pillow when she sleeps. more times than not, it's one of my limbs but last night she chose her little sock monkey.

if the lighting looks a little off, it's because we had a power outage last night and she was lit by our lantern. yesterday was 107° and the one thing you don't want to be without is electricity, i.e. air conditioner, and to have to use candles to light the room.

brain power

bailey always goes outside to greet hubby when he gets home from work. she usually waits on her bed, but the sun had shifted, leaving her bed in full sun. so what's a little chihuahua to do?

she put her little brain to work and concluded standing in the shade of the umbrella was the smart thing to do. good choice, bailey!
her little brain doesn't always work at 100%, so when she makes a smart decision, it's worth blogging about!

trapped

the girls don't like it when i lock them in the living room. right away they want to know what's happening. even though i am in the room with them, they are still on full alert. what's going on? is someone coming over? when can we get out? inquiring minds want to know!

product review: canidae life stages bakery snacks dog treats #ChewyInfluencer

yesterday we reviewed dinner and today we are reviewing dessert, aka CANIDAE life stages bakery snacks with wild boar & kale dog treats, (compliments of chewy.com).

"wild boar in a snack treat? ok, let's do this"

"mmm, yummy"

"good to the last crumb"

they are pretty substantial in size. they're approx 1.75" x 1" x .50" so of course i had to crush them for bailey.
for those who are counting, there are 25 kcals per biscuit.

made with 7 main ingredients for great taste
oven-baked for a crunchy texture
40+ treats in every bag
made by a family-owned company in the usa
"CANIDAE is pet food made by pet people"

bailey awards CANIDAE life stages bakery snacks with wild boar & kale dog treats her pink paw seal of approval.

product review: zignature whitefish canned dog food #ChewyInfluencer

earlier this month, when bee was here for a visit, we received a delivery from chewy. she was so excited that she would be able to participate in this month's product review. i was hoping it would arrive before her visit ended and it came one day before she flew back to new york. whew!

she was even more excited when she saw what was in the box. zignature whitefish limited ingredient formula grain-free canned dog food!

first it had to pass the sniff test ... passed!

then it had to pass the taste test ... passed!
unfortunately i could only give her one meal with this food before she left but she scarfed it down without hesitation.

"mmmmmm"

in a nutshell:
- pacific northwest whitefish, fish broth & peas are the first 3 ingredients
- it also contains cranberries & blueberries
- single animal protein formula
- whitefish is naturally low in sodium and rich with omega-3 fatty acids
- hypo-allergenic. high protein. great for dogs with food sensitivities
- no chicken, eggs, potatoes, dairy, grains, glutens, tapioca, corn or soy
and bee loved it.

bee awards zignature whitefish limited ingredient formula grain-free canned dog food bailey's pink paw seal of approval.

great american eclipse

yesterday was the great american eclipse. did you see it? only a few cities were lucky enough to see a total eclipse. here in the i.e., we got a partial eclipse, i think it was 70%. the girls were afraid to go outside because they didn't have the special glasses. i told them if they didn't look directly at the sun, regular sunglasses should be ok. BOL

this is a screenshot of the eclipse that was visible from my city.

do not disturb

this is one of bailey's favorite spots to fall asleep. in this position, i can't get any crocheting done but at least my right hand is still free to use the computer. it's a little slower with only one hand, but i can't bear to disturb her. do you put your furbaby's comfort above your own?

potp for bee

saturday night, my grand dog bee went back home to new york. it's always a joy to have that cutie here. but last night daughter #2 called saying bee wasn't feeling well. they were on their way to the emergency vet because bee was wobbly and extremely lethargic. my daughter said as soon as they go to the vet, bee threw up. they are thinking it was something she ate but they took blood just to be sure everything's ok.
hope you are feeling better today, sweet bee.

crate training

i have started crate training bailey because the venue daughter #2 chose for her wedding & reception is not dog friendly. how dare they! she can be there for the wedding but she is not able to stay for the reception. go figure. because i cannot leave her home alone, no way, no how, we bought a crate to take to the venue. they said she has to stay upstairs, in the bridal suite, crated, during the reception. yikes! (daughter #1's wedding was totally dog friendly. just sayin'. shout out to la valencia hotel.)

we've had bailey almost 7 years and we've never had the need to have her crated, so this is new for all of us. she is ok for a few minutes but then she wants out. and will be quite vocal about it. we have fed her her meals in there, making it a yummy place. we've also left the door open so she can wander in and out, but she's never wandered in on her own. any tips you have would be greatly appreciated. the wedding is in 8 months.

when life gives you lemons

as soon as our lemons ripen, i'll be able to make gallons of lemonade.

flashback to 2013 when we had a lemon bigger than bailey's head!

bee's back in town

look who's visiting from new york. grand-dog #2! since bee only comes out a couple of times a year, her visits are always very special. she may not be able to see the brooklyn bridge out of our living room window, like she can from her new york apartment, but i have a backyard with lots of sunshine and no leash is required to do her business. BOL. just look at her happy face. she's lovin' it.

there's an app for that #tot

what would we do without all the apps that are available to us. there's an app for just about every need. my favorite apps are for photo editing. the app i used for this picture is called sketch master. i like this one because of the number of filters there are to choose from. this one is colored pencil. do you have a favorite photo editing app?

stay hydrated

bailey is doing a very good job at staying hydrated on these extremely hot and humid days we've been having lately. when we go out, we never leave home without first checking that we have [1] poopie bags, [2] her treat bag and [3] her h2o4k9 water bottle with fresh water.

(h2o4k9 water bottles available at kibblesplace.com)

the battle continues

we are still battling the ground squirrels. we fill a hole and they dig another. i peeked over our fence the other day and saw these two just sitting there, probably chatting on where they will dig their next hole!

they are getting out of control and i don't know what to do. any suggestions? i don't want to hurt them, i just want them to leave. this is just some of what we are dealing with.

"they're making a mess!"
