dia de los muertos

dia de los muertos (day of the dead) is celebrated on november 1 & 2. they are days set aside to honor the departed; not to mourn them, but to celebrate them. at 12 o'clock am on november 1, it is believed that the gates of heaven open and the spirits of departed children or angelitos (little angels) are allowed to come back to visit their families for 24 hours. then at 12 am on november 2, the spirits of the adults are allowed to come for their 24 hour visit.

"feliz dia de los muertos"

to encourage the souls to visit, alters are built and are stocked with favorite foods, pictures, mementos of the departed and lots of flowers. they are days filled with prayers, memories and family.
