all i wanted was a picture of the girls together. sounds simple enough, right? not when there are distractions coming from the other room...

or when it turns into playtime. oh well, maybe tomorrow.

national doughnut / donut day

i think it was shakespeare that said "what's in a spelling? that which we call a donut by any other spelling would taste as sweet." no? ok maybe not, but no matter how you spell it, it's still delicious. friday was national donut day. did you indulge? we did, but not until yesterday when the lines weren't out the door. my favorite is maple cake. what's yours?

no, bailey did not taste my donut but i did give her a doggie treat while i enjoyed my human treat.

when aoife sees leftovers in bailey's bowl, she will just stand there staring at it. if i'm in the room, she will ask permission to finish it. if i forget and leave bailey's bowl unattended, she will take advantage of the situation and help herself. BOL

K-9 mattie

while driving on the 15 fwy (in eastvale, ca), i noticed a memorial highway sign that caught my eye. it was for sergeant gilbert cortez and k-9 mattie. i had never seen a highway memorial to a k9 before. when i got home, i googled them and found out they both died while on duty, in 2013 when their car overturned on their way to conduct a contraband search. mattie, a belgian malinois certified to search for contraband and narcotics, was killed instantly.

sgt. cortez survived the crash but died before the medevac helicopter could reach him. he is survived by his wife and two children. the memorial highway was dedicated to them in january of this year.

bailey and aoife are both short-haired chihuahuas but they couldn't look more different. that's because bailey is an apple head and aoife is a deer head. no, i didn't make that up. that's really how they are known.

bailey's little skull is much rounder and is shaped like, well, like an apple. another trait of an apple head is the 90 degree angle where her skull meets her muzzle.

aoife's head is more elongated and shaped like, you guessed it, a deer. the slope from aoife's skull to her muzzle is another characteristic of a deer head.
