update

bailey's blood test came back and her numbers were still a little elevated. normal should be 200, hers were 227. not too far off. doc felt they were in a safe enough range to stop her treatment. that was wednesday. she's been ok since then. her mornings start out pretty slow but then she perks up throughout the day. she can get around on her own, for the most part. i did have her on leash, even in the house, because she would fall over or crash into things. that has stopped and she can pretty much walk on her own now. she doesn't have full access to our house though. she is contained to whatever room i am in. better to be safe than sorry.

another update

we had another visit to the vet friday and this is how bailey sat in her car seat on our way home. she was so pooped. but comfy? i dunno. BOL

doc looked in her eyes and said she's not completely blind but her vision is definitely impaired. he said to continue with her eye drops to reduce her eye pressure. he also said to increase the dosage to 3 times a day.

update

bailey is doing better. her eye has improved a little with the eye drops doc gave her. she still walks into things here and there but then she does walk with her nose to the ground. maybe if she'd hold her head up as she walks she could see things before bumping into them! i'm always telling her to lift her head up but she doesn't listen. what's a mother to do? BOL

on our follow-up vet visit, doc gave her 2 more prescriptions and wants to see her again friday.

update

so, yesterday's vet visit didn't go as i had hoped. bailey was diagnosed with heart disease. last week her pulse was so low, she almost had no pulse at all. she was definitely in the danger zone and could have had a heart attack in her sleep. with the pills he gave her friday, and the 2 shots she got, her heart rate came back up and yesterday doc was able to find a strong pulse right away. she had no symptoms of heart failure, just congestion and wheezing. i thought it was just a cold. it scares the bejeebers out of me to think how this would have turned out if i hadn't taken her in when i did. she must have a slew of guardian angels looking out for her.

so now we have heart medication (1/4 tab twice a day), along with her seizure medication (1/8 tab twice a day), and an anti-inflammatory (1/4 tab once a day). how do i get 1/8 of a tab? i have to crush it and then separate the powder into 8 little piles. oh, and i keep them on a covered plate so the powder doesn't get blown away.

update

we are still having trouble finding the right medication for bailey’s seizures. 3 weeks ago doc put her on another prescription, which didn’t work at all. in fact, it made her seizures worse. they were more frequent and lasted longer. she also had 3 episodes where her back legs just gave out while she was walking. she just collapsed and was unable to get back up, like her back legs were paralyzed. when we told doc her reaction, he took her off of it immediately. we have another follow-up appointment next week.

good news

you might recall that 2 1/2 weeks ago bailey was prescribed a new medication to help control her seizures. (a teeny tiny little pill that i have to crush and separate into 8 doses.) i am happy to report that since she’s been on it, she’s only had 1 seizure. yesterday we went to the vet for another follow-up visit and doc was thrilled to hear it’s been working for her. he said to continue the 1/8 pill twice a day and wants to see us again in another month. yay for bailey!

update

bailey has been on her new meds for a week now, and i gotta say, i have seen a difference. where she had been having 2-3 seizures a week, over this past week she's only had 1. these are the best results we’ve seen so far. yay for bailey!

two good, one not so good

firstly, bailey is doing pretty well. the antibiotics really did their job! her eye is back to it’s normal marble self.

secondly, the new medication for her seizures is also doing very well. i can count on one hand how many seizures she’s had since the change.

thirdly, the only problem we are having is her new diet. we are having trouble finding new foods that bailey likes and that agree with her tummy (she’s thrown up twice this week.) she’s not too fond of the vegetarian kibble or the canned food so i am looking for other options.

she's a survivor

to see bailey walk on leash you'd never know she was immobile 3 months ago. because of how well she does outside, we are letting her walk around the house more and more. she does pretty well as long as she doesn't try to go too fast. the tile floor is still off limits though. she has no traction and can easily lose her footing. my little girl is a fighter, and a survivor, and i have no doubt her recovery will continue to defy the odds.

"i'm a survivor!"

marble eyes

i sure have missed these big, bright marble eyes and i'm so glad they have returned. everyday bailey is getting better and stronger. she is eating like a little piggy, the haze in her right eye has disappeared, she's full of vim & vigor and her personality has returned. she's even barking at the doorbell!

however, she still has trouble walking and she cannot walk without assistance. we attach a lanyard to her harness and we keep it taut to help her balance. we only have wood floors in our house so we don't do much walking inside but we do a good bit outside on the lawn. she can balance herself to pee but she looses her footing with her poopies. we don't want her falling into her business so we lend her a helping hand. she isn't as much of a bobble head as she used to be but it is still something i will bring up to dr w at our next appointment.

until we meet again my friends, xoxo-
