gotcha!

my, how time flys. it seems like yesterday that little bailey entered our lives, but it’s been 8 years! i can hardly believe it.

this little girl has been through so much but she’s a fighter and has made it through everything that life has thrown at her. who knew a little 4 pound doggie could be so strong.
happy gotcha day, sweetie. i love you sooo much.

7 years and counting

it's bailey's gotcha day!!!
the day we rescued little bailey is etched in my mind as if it were yesterday. the feeling we had when we first saw her was undeniable. we instantly knew that we had to bring this little girl home with us. she has brought such joy into our lives. {and some heartache too, but let's not dwell on that.} today is a day of celebration because we have been bailey's pawrents for seven fantastic years. and counting.

happy gotcha day little bailey. i love you, and your funny faces.

28 november

28 november was a very happy day here at casa chihuahua.
why, you ask?

it was bailey's gotcha day!

it feels like it was just yesterday but it was actually 5 YEARS AGO that bailey became a part of our family. can you believe it?!?
when hubby and i first saw her, we just looked at each other and we knew we had to rescue this little girl. we had been dogless since january (we lost kibbles to cancer on 26 january) and while my heart was still broken, it was beginning to ache for another pup. my prayers were answered when we found bailey. we were a match made in doggie heaven.

happy gotcha day bailey!!! i love you.

bittersweet gotcha day

well this isn't exactly the blog post i had intended for today. it was supposed to be a celebration of the day we found little bailey. she came into our lives 4 years ago. now instead of celebrating her rescue, we are pacing the floor wondering where this journey will lead us.

the only time she can be left alone is when she's asleep in the playpen. and even then, we have to be right there because when she wakes up she tries to stand. tumbling around the playpen she could further injure her fragile skull, so we pick her up.

before her accident, she could sleep in our arms for hours on end, but now she gets antsy if we are sitting down, so we pace. it's the only thing that'll keep her somewhat calm but it's torture on our backs. she's only been out of icu for a week but it feels like a month. i can't wait till monday when we go back to the vet. he might have some words of wisdom on how to handle her anxiety, other than increasing her diazepam.

we had to cancel thanksgiving yesterday. bailey requires so much time and energy, there was no way i could have anyone here and prepare a meal. i just popped some chicken in the crock pot and that was our dinner. hopefully things will be better by christmas. fingers crossed.

today is a double whammy

firstly, it's bailey's gotcha day!!!
3 years ago today bailey became a member of our family. who knew what a huge impact a 4# chihuahua would make on our lives. 3 years ago she was a homeless doggie roaming the streets of southern california and today she is a princess. can you imagine this little thing, alone, on the streets? she must have been so scared. well, she will never be scared or alone again. that is a promise we made to her 3 years ago and a promise we will keep forever.

"i'll have you know that i am only posing with this ridiculous
party hat because you are offering irresistible treats."

"how do you like my new birthday dress?"

secondly, it's thanksgiving!
a day to give thanks for the gifts that life has bestowed upon you.
a day to give thanks for your friends and family, near or far. whether your family walks on two legs or four, swims, flies or slithers, family is family.
and a day to give thanks for your blogging buddies!

"i am thankful for my pawrents and the roof over my little head;
for the food in my bowl and my comfy cozy bed;
... oh! and for the sunshine! BOL"

we will be enjoying a quiet thanksgiving this year; just me, hubby and bailey. (no giant feast = no messy kitchen to clean up! yay.)

this is a blog hop!

happy thanksgiving everyone!
and to our blogging friends outside of the us, happy thursday!

then & now

this month marks the 2 year anniversary of bailey's gotcha day. when i showed this pair of pictures to my hubby, he thought bailey looked older in the "then" picture. she looks more ragged and you can see the pain in her eyes. it looks like we have reversed the aging process now that bailey is in our care. yay for bailey!
