a trip to the vet

thanks to everyone for your concern and well wishes for bailey. she started feeling bad tuesday morning at 3.15am and had to go out for an emergency poop, and then again at 4.45am. all day she had the runs and the shakes. she wasn't very hungry and hadn't eaten much, so she was getting weak. again yesterday morning she woke up before dawn with an emergency visit to the "bathroom". i called the vet at 9am, because over 24 hours of the runs can't be good for a little 4# doggie. he took some blood, checked her poop, gave her 3 shots and i came home with 2 prescriptions. [doc said there have been a lot of cases of pancreatitis lately, so that's why he wanted to check her blood.]

when we got home, all she wanted to do was sleep in the warm sun.

she slept all afternoon and all evening. for dinner she had some chicken soup i had made for her, and looked to be feeling a little better, but then back to sleep. she didn't have any more runs after the doctor visit, so hopefully that's over with. the doctor will call today with the results from her blood work and poop sample. fingers crossed for some good news.

UPDATE: doc just called and her blood work looks good! red blood cell count, check. white blood cell count, check. liver, check. kidneys, check. no signs of pancreatitis. whew! still waiting on her fecal test. since pancreatitis is ruled out, now he is hoping she didn't pick up something from the cats or possums that frequent our yard.

until we meet again my friends-

  1. Poor little one! Hope she is on the way to recovery and it is nothing more serious than a little virus or something.
