crate training (part 2)

it's been about a month since i started crate training bailey. i've been taking it pretty easy so far and not rushing it at all. i don't want to force her because i need it to be a happy place. i have been leaving the door open so she can come and go as she pleases.

she had a bed by our sliding patio doors, so i moved the crate there. she wasn't going to the crate at all in it's previous location and after i moved it, she has been using it every day as i prepare dinner. i've only closed her in a handful of times, mainly to see if she'd freak out or not (she didn't).

in the next few months i will be closing the door more often. i will also start to close her in and leave the room. she is a very slow learner so i am taking it very slow but her walking in on her own, is a very good start in the right direction.

why are we crate training bailey at this point in her life? the venue daughter #2 chose for her wedding is not 100% dog friendly. in other words, bailey can attend the wedding but not the reception, so she must be crated during that time. pfft.

until we meet again my friends-

  1. ??? I am confused. We crate trained Dakota when he was 8 months old. He only used his crate til he was 2. He decided on his own that he had had enough of the crate! We still have it around but he NEVER goes into it. I just keep it around for if he is ill or for an emergency.

  2. Glad it is going well. You are good to take it slow and easy.
