{this moment} see beautiful: it's the little things

i never have to go far to see beautiful. i see it every single day in my own garden. this post is concentrating on the beautiful little things.

like this beautiful little honeybee feasting on my agapanthus,

and this beautiful little ladybug that was wandering in my plum tree,

and this beautiful little mockingbird we found on our front lawn last week!
new life is especially beautiful.

and of course, my beautiful little bailey.

{52 snapshots of life} #sleepy

week 35 of the 52 snapshots of life photo challenge brings us to sleepy. bailey made this "challenge" not much of a challenge. i hope you enjoy the sleepy faces of bailey.

MOCKINGBIRD UPDATE:
our second little baby mockingbird has been jumping around our orange tree from branch to branch for the past couple of days. sometimes he'd come out from the branches and sit on the outside of the tree, which is when i snapped this shot of him. at 7.30pm tuesday night, i saw something drop out of the tree. when i went to investigate, i saw it was our baby mockingbird! once out of the tree, it looked like he was trying to fly back up into it but his little wings just couldn't carry him up high enough to grab a branch. the next morning he made his way to the other end of our yard and using my bushes as stepping stones, hopped over the fence. good luck little mockingbird. i have faith that you will grow into a strong and healthy bird. adiós pajarito.

they grow so fast

as promised in tuesday's post, here are more mockingbird photos.

baby #1 was the first to leave the nest. the next day when baby #2 left the nest, baby #1 was waiting for him under the orange tree. then they ran to the opposite end of our yard, together.

this is how they settled in for the night, side by side, but totally out in the open. i was so worried for them because they were completely defenseless to any predator that could come by.

first thing the next morning i went to check on them and was thrilled to see both were safe and sound. that day they discovered my honeysuckle plant and that became their shelter. whew!

the parents are still bringing food but their meals have gotten larger. it looks like moth is on today's menu.

i love his fuzzy little head.

baby #2 is a little leaner.

they are very active and don't stay in one place very long. every time i'd go to check on them, they were in a different spot.

baby #2 is on the handle and baby #1 is riding up front.

this is the last pic i got before they hopped over the fence and went next door. baby #1 hopped over first, then the next day baby #2 joined him. i was so sad to see them go but i'm so happy for the time they were here. goodbye little birdies. please be safe and if you are ever in need of housing, mi casa es su casa.

timeline:
the parents started building their nest at the end of march.
the babies were born at the end of april.
they were running around our yard the first week of may.
they grow so fast!

{52 snapshots of life} #teach

you may remember, in my #spring post i mentioned that a pair of mockingbirds had built a nest in our orange tree. well the babies were born! have hatched! i am adding this post to the 52 snapshots of life blog hop because as they grow, their parents have so much to teach them.

i took a quick peek into the tree while the parents were hunting for food. i knew they would only be gone for a moment so i only peeked long enough to snap this picture:

"feed me!"

here is a little snippet of how they sound calling for their lunch:


a week later, baby #1 has feathers and has left the nest. baby #2 is still in the nest.

mom & dad come and go all day, feeding their babies:

so where is bailey during all this, you ask? i kept her away from the orange tree and out of that section of yard completely. i don't know what her reaction to the hopping, chirping baby bird would have been but i wasn't going to take the chance to find out! plus, the parents are very protective over their babies. i saw them attacking a squirrel that got too close for comfort. they chased him clear off our property, squawking and poking him the entire time!

{52 snapshots of life} #spring

spring is a season of new beginnings and new life. it can be seen all around us. from the new pop of color in the garden ...

to the unseen miracle of life. what looks like just a mound of twigs is actually an intricately built mockingbird nest in my orange tree. i've been watching mr & mrs mockingbird come and go for several days now, bringing all sorts of building materials in their beaks. the other day when they were both away, i peeked into the tree and found their nest! they are still in the process of building it so there aren't any eggs yet, but i'm sure it's only a matter of days.

mr mockingbird can be heard at all hours of the day, singing his songs of spring.
