if you saw our post on friday, then you know ms. hummingbird built her nest on our patio. well, i snuck a peek inside and guess what i found:
two perfectly beautiful eggs!!!
her nest is a work of art. she has collected fluff, fibers, spider webs, feathers & plants and worked them into an expertly crafted nest for her babies.
UPDATE:
jeanne wanted to know about size so i took this picture to show scale.
thanks to blog paws for hosting wordless wednesday blog hop.
until we meet again my friends-
Wow, what a soft-lookin nest!
ReplyDeletethat is a beautiful nest - those babies should be very comfortable in it when they hatch
ReplyDeleteWow, that's lovely. I have never had such a close view of a Hummingbird's nest before.
ReplyDeleteyou have a lot of feel good animal stuff going on there! You know what I do with Dakota's TONS of fur that collects on our floor? I gather it and throw it outside....my reasoning is, that it would make excellent "padding" for a bird's nest, your photo is proof that i am right! Bet some birds around here are enjoying Dakota's fur this winter! BOL! DakotasDen
ReplyDeleteSo teeny like you Bailey

This nest is so perfectly made and she made it fast, not even a week yet. It's ready and even with two eggs. Can't wait to see the babies, keep those hawks away especially cause the nest is so much out in the open.
ReplyDeleteshe built the nest on the shabby chandelier hanging in the back corner of my patio so it isn't visible to any predators that may be hunting for a meal.
DeleteSo cool!
ReplyDeleteAren't they FABulous??! Ours haven't taken to their usual nest yet..or maybe they will build a new one in the trees...they are so cool, huh?!
ReplyDeleteKisses,

Oh, I love this. I've been looking for a hummingbird nest for years, but no luck yet. You didn't mention how big it is. I heard they're walnut size? I'm so excited for you! I hope you'll post pics of the babies too. Squeee!
ReplyDeletehi jeanne. yes, it is about the size of a walnut! i have added a picture to show scale.
Deletej.
This is A-mazing. Share more pics please...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazingly small!! But then so are hummingbirds! Are you going to save the nest when the babies fledge?
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I am in awe of how birds can build nests without hands. I hope you'll share pictures as this progresses. They'll be hummer babies soon.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Momma bear found a nice and cozy place to have some babies. It's neat to see inside the nest. Thanks for sharing with us. :)
