3rd treatment

bailey had another treatment for her pancreatitis yesterday and they took more blood to see how her body is reacting to the treatments. today she will only get subcutaneous fluids. this'll be a much shorter visit. the full treatment takes about an hour but fluids only take about a minute to administer. again, she slept all the way home. our vet is 30 miles away, so that was a pretty good nap.

thank you for all of your prayers and healing vibes. we are grateful for each and every one.

it's back

bailey has been a bit under the weather lately and we've been seeing our vet on a weekly basis. he suspected that her pancreatitis has returned, so friday he took some blood to see what turned up. (she had quite the battle with pancreatitis, and beat it, almost exactly a year ago.) yesterday we got the results and it was confirmed, again. friday she had her first treatment, saturday and sunday she received fluids and first thing yesterday morning she had her second treatment. poor baby, it takes so much out of her. he inserts a catheter into her tummy and injects the medication directly into her pancreas. (i'm pretty sure that's what he said.)

she was so tired from the procedure, she slept all the way home. she was out of it most of the day and didn't perk up until around 4:00. she ate a little (very little) then went back to sleep. i had to wake her to take her medications then she went back to sleep. today we go back to the vet. i think he's gonna take more blood to see if there's any improvement. (her last battle with pancreatitis took 3 weeks of daily visits to bring her back.) doc had said it wasn't as bad as last year and that she should only need few treatments because we caught it early. i pray he is right. please keep her in your thoughts as she, once again, battles pancreatitis.

bouncing back

bailey is bouncing back quite nicely after her bout with pancreatitis. it took 3 weeks of daily vet visits to bring her back from death's door, but doc was able to get a handle on it. yes, you read that right, death's door. friday doc told me "she was dying" when he first started treating her. wait, what? dying? he hadn't put it that bluntly before. i had no idea her condition was so grave. but that was 3 weeks ago. look at her now!
i will call him today to let him know how she was over the weekend and to get the results from the blood he took friday.

thank you so much for all the prayers everyone has been sending her way. y'all are the best.

under the weather, part 7

bailey is looking a lot better. her pancreatitis numbers have dropped from 1600 to 350! i think our goal number is 200 (we're so close!) but when she reaches the goal, that's only half the battle. we still have to deal with the mass that's growing in her. if we only knew what it was. an x-ray can only show so much. doc still wants to open her up to see what we're dealing with. it's either gonna be not too bad or really bad. i'm not ready for it to be really bad and i'm scared. of course i don't want her to be suffering and i would never let it get to that stage. she's been going for fluids and treatments everyday and seems to be doing so much better now that we are getting a handle on her pancreatitis. but that mass is still looming over us; is it just a benign tumor or the big "C"?

under the weather, part 6

good day my friends. bailey had a pretty good weekend. she finally started eating! not much, but some is better than none. she ate enough for her marble eyes to return to almost normal and she's had enough energy to wander around the house too. she will be going back for more treatments today and tomorrow for her pancreatitis, then her condition will be re-evaluated. thank you so much for all of your prayers. she's not out of the woods yet but she can see the clearing.

under the weather, part 5

bailey's treatments sure take a toll on her. she's always so pooped afterwards. it's quite an ordeal for a 3# doggie.

so going back to the mass that showed up on bailey's spleen in the x-ray, doc is concerned about it because he's not sure what it is. yesterday he brought up exploratory surgery. he took more blood and should have it analyzed by today's appointment. hopefully that will shed some light on what might be going on.

she still hasn't eaten, except for the chicken broth that i squirt into her mouth. she gets little bursts of energy but for the most part, she just does a lot of sleeping.

it's terrible not knowing what's really going on and what the future might hold. this came on so suddenly. she was perfectly fine last week. it's so hard to keep a positive attitude about her condition. is her weight loss caused by the mystery mass? how long has the mass been growing in her? if she hadn't gotten pancreatitis, when would doc have found the mass? is the mass worse than her pancreatitis? should she go through exploratory surgery and can she even handle surgery at this point or is she too weak now? i wish i had the answers.
please keep my little girl in your prayers. thank you.

under the weather, part 4

bailey hasn't eaten anything all week. her last meal was friday! i've offered her everything i can think of and she's turning everything down. out of desperation, and even though it could bring on her seizures, i offered her a tiny bit of chicken. i don't know how long she can go without eating. she's already lost a pound. well guess what? she ate it! i gave her 4 tiny pieces and no seizures all night! she goes to see the doc again today, for another treatment for her pancreatitis, so of course this'll be the first thing i bring up.
thanks again for all of your prayers for little bailey. we love you all.

under the weather, part 3

well, bailey's blood work confirmed doc's suspicion for pancreatitis. but as fate would have it, her doc has invented a treatment for pancreatitis that he's had very good luck with; so she had her first treatment monday and she had another yesterday. he said he was tired of seeing pets dying from pancreatitis and felt he had to do something about it. praying it works for bailey as well. she will get another treatment tomorrow and another on friday.
doc has been seeing his patients outside because of the coronavirus.

"hi doc, i'm ready for my next treatment!"

she's still not eating, and has already lost a pound, but doc said her appetite will come back as she starts to feel better. i have been able to squirt a little soup broth into her mouth though. i know it's not much, but it's all i can get in her. after her treatment, and the 40 minute drive back home, she's pooped. so as soon as we get home she falls right asleep.
thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. we love you all.

under the weather, part 2

bailey had a very long vet visit yesterday. i took her in at 10.30, because she had thrown up saturday and hadn't eaten all weekend, and i didn't pick her up till 3.30! i didn't know i was gonna have to leave her but doc noticed how dehydrated she had become so he admitted her immediately to administer fluids, run some tests and take some x-rays. her blood test results will come back today but her x-ray showed a mass. she has another appointment this morning at 8 to get her blood test results and to get more info. hopefully it won't be devastating news, although pancreatitis is a possibility. please send your her stongest POTP. thank you.
