bailey loves
zuke's z-bones. even though we buy their smallest size (mini for dogs 5-25 lbs) 4 pound bailey still has one problem with them. she doesn't have the jaw strength to chew them. sooo...
i cut them up for her. no, she doesn't have me wrapped around her little
finger paw. she really can't bite hard enough to eat them. she will just sit with it and lick it. she will attempt to bite it but she just gets frustrated and starts to nervously carry it around. oh and by the way, it's not only bones. i also cut up her cookies and her kibble! are there any other little doggies out there that can't chew a bone or break a cookie?

My dogs have no problem chewing on things, but they have very big jaws and teeth:) I would do the same thing as you if I had a little dog.
ReplyDeleteBailey, you might want to try a Jones Natural Chews taffy. The Beef Liver Taffy is a big favorite with dogs. It's softer, easier to chew. The strips tear easily into small pieces. Tiny dogs don't have problems with them. They're also all natural and made and grown in the USA.
ReplyDeleteRoxy will wait for Torrey to soften the rawhide, then swoops in and tries to steal it.
ReplyDeleteWow! No problems here and even my little sister Bailie is going to town with her baby teeth on an elk antler! I don't think Mom has ever had a 4 lb pet, I was 5 lbs when she got me and she thought that was tiny!
ReplyDeleteThey look really good, Dip sometimes likes a carrot bone but it takes her furever to eat it!

Rita loves anything Zukes! Never tried that kind. And she's got some serious chompers, but we do cut up her big greenies into 4 chunks. (I can 2nd Flea's comment about the taffy. Ordered some for Rita and she gives it 2 dew claws up!)
ReplyDeleteWe only like their teeny ones too

Nothing wrong with a little helping paw...Gizmo has a pretty small mouth so i have to be careful about the size of the treats we have...With kibble it was important to find one with the small size bites...he just wouldn't eat the larger pieces and i can't really blame him
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Zuke's before now, they look yummy. Sookie doesn't really have much of a problem chewing her food and treats, though hairless Chinese Cresteds can be prone to tooth problems including losing teeth so I have to be careful she doesn't chew on anything too hard.
ReplyDeleteThat is very sad you cannot enjoy chewing the treats. I am glad I am not a little dog! Wolf, wolf!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you cut things up. I once knew a small doggie who choked to death on a heart worm pill. I think the dog didn't chew it fully.
ReplyDeleteOur dogs have jaws of steel, but we still soak their kibble so you aren't the only one who doesn't always have to chew. :)
Oh Bailey, well, nothin' wrong with havin' your Mom tied around your paws!!! (yeah, I don't believes your Moms when she says she's NOT! BOL) I get Ma to hand feed me my kibbles sometimes, so your not the only one!! hehehe
ReplyDeleteNow, I don't have a problem chewin' stuffs, it's just that I don't like chewin' on stuff that I can't 'eat'. I don't likes the antlers, or bones cause, well, I can't eat em'!! So, why bother, I say! BOL
So glads your Moms is like my Ma, and will bow to your every whim....
Kisses,
Ruby ♥☺
Mr. N eats whole ducks and rabbits. I'm not really too worried about him not being able to chew things!
