national dog day

today is national dog day. a day to "bring attention to the plight of animals and encourage adoption." i don't know how y'all ended up at your forever homes but bailey was a stray. she was found running loose on the streets. can you imagine? poor little thing.

in my adult life, i have had 3 dogs: my first (rocky) was from a breeder but my next two (kibbles & bailey) were rescues. in 1995 when i was looking for our second dog, i went to the shelters. i was there every week. i've seen the conditions they live in and i've seen the sadness in all of their eyes first hand and it was heartbreaking. i wasn't looking for a specific breed but i was looking for a specific size, so it took a while. when i finally found kibbles (a dachshund mix), my search was over but the search to find a home for all the shelter dogs will never be over. there just aren't enough people willing to adopt from a shelter. if you are looking to adopt, please at least consider a "pound puppy."

give your pooch an extra smooch today and tell them it was from me!

until we meet again my friends-

happy national dog day!

today is national dog day. a day created in 2004 to honor our dogs. are you doing anything special for/with your pooch today? are you taking them out for a tasty treat or an extra long walk? how about just taking a moment out of your busy life to just sit and hold your dog. give them a little extra lovin' because they deserve it. they are your friend, your companion, your confidant. they are always there for you, no matter what; through your happy times and your not so happy times. they don't judge you or expect anything from you. all they want is to love and be loved in return.

until we meet again my friends-
