quite a bit has happened in the last 24 hours. i spoke with the er doc and with bailey's regular vet, dr w. after much soul searching, i decided the best care for bailey would be with dr w. i trust him and i feel much more comfortable with her in his care. she stayed the night in the er, but first thing in the morning, i took her to dr w.
during dr w's exam, bailey went into a seizure. OMG, what a horrific thing to witness. all we (hubby & i) could do was watch in horror, as doc injected her with dose after dose of medications and fluids. after what seemed like an eternity, she came out of it. when she was stabilized from the seizure, she was admitted to his icu.
doc called us last night to update us on her condition. she does have motor skills, so she's not paralyzed and she can make eye contact, so she's not blind. so dr w's main concern is her skull fracture, which is quite bad and the swelling in her brain. the cracked vertebra is on the back burner for now. the brain is more important. he said she was drinking sugar water and she was more alert. this tells him the medication might be helping to reduce the swelling in her brain, however her legs are still uncoordinated. she's still in critical condition but at least she's stable.
i can't believe the outpouring of love and support that we have received from y'all. i want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you. it means the world to me.
as i write this, i am trying to sound calm, cool and collected, but i have tears streaming down my face and i am wrapped in bailey's blanket so i can feel her near me. it's terrible to wake up and not have her snuggled up at my face or laying across my neck. i don't know how long she's going to be away or even if she'll ever come back to me. all i can do is wait, hope and pray.
if you missed yesterday's post, you can find it here.

We are praying so hard for her and for you. Life is a live show and all you really have is this moment, the rest is always uncertain. It is a huge reminder to cherish every moment you have. Stay strong!
ReplyDeleteThe best thing right now is the word "stable", meaning she isn't getting any worse. So that's the positive thing she has going for her. We will continue to send our prayers and warm Florida vibes for a complete recovery so she can once again be home with her family.
ReplyDeletePawHugs!
We are so choked up about this. We adore Bailey. Our hugs, good vibes and Fight Like A Frenchie is in overload. This is such a difficult time

We will all continue to pray without ceasing and know each hour of every day is a wonderful sign that Bailey is getting stronger and a reminder that prayer works. Take care, Harley & Cathy

ReplyDeleteWe too have been praying for you and sweet Bailey. When I would wake up last night the first thing I would do is rub Bijou's belly and fret about Bailey. Then another prayer. I am so happy to hear she is stable and doing a bit better. It sounds like you have an excellent vet . Thanks for keeping us updated during this trying time. Much love and prayers and good wishes.

ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope she gets feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteLots of love coming your way. Unfortunately, many of us know about "in the blink of an eye". I hope that your story has a happy ending. You have many many people pulling for you.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I am so sorry. I missed yesterday's post and was so sad to read this. My brother has a Chihuahua about Bailey's size and the exact same thing happened to her several years ago: She had a bad fall, smacked her head on the hardwood floor, and immediately went into seizures. Now she is a happy and healthy 13-year-old. I pray that the same will be true for Bailey...lots of love and warm thoughts being sent your way <3
ReplyDeleteI'm in tears. Oh little Bailey. What beautiful flowers from Chewy. May they be a reminder to you and your husband of everyone pulling for Bailey's recovery.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry that you and bailey are having to endure this. We are sending our hardest POTP to y'all. I can feel my heart breaking when I see her little face. Keep the faith that she will make a complete recovery. ♥
ReplyDeleteI just saw this. I am so very sorry, how scary and horrible. I hope everything turns out OK. Roxy, Torrey and I are all sending you lots of love and prayers!
